Harvest is almost over. The white grapes are all off the vine and the reds will be very soon. It has been a terrific ripening season and the fruit looks fantastic for another superb vintage of KarriBindi wines. Our wines continue to receive great accolades from wine writers. Although we only produce very limited quantities, KarriBindi wines have been noticed and reviewed by some of Australia's leading wine writers. James Halliday rates KarriBindi 5 stars, Ray Jordon has rated all our wines highly in his last two WA Wine Guides, awarding 88 points to both our 2008 and 2009 Sauvignon Blancs and Peter Forrestal rates our 2008 Sauvignon Blanc as one of the Best value white wines over $15 in his book Quaff 2010. It was a perfect growing season, with warm days and nights and very little rain through spring and summer. With some seriously hot days in Karridale throughout January and February (a couple of 39 degree days) vintage was upon us more quickly than normal. Our first night harvest of whites was on 3 March and our last white harvest was on 16 March. It was a mad rush to get nets off and organise harvesters and staff, but like every vintage it was worth it! Especially so when tasting the fresh grapes straight from the vine and then getting the call from our winemaker proclaiming that the fruit was in perfect condition and had beautiful varietal expression.
Now we wait for the Reds, which should be no more than a week away. Then we can celebrate the end of Vintage 2010!
Margaret River Wine Region Festival
This weekend is the 2010 Margaret River Wine Region Festival. We will again be showcasing our wines at Leeuwin Estate.
It should be a wonderful day of fine food, fine wine and fun. If you are planning on heading to the festival, please call in to our stand and rekindle your passion for KarriBindi premium estate wines.
